A. "Gene" Eugene Phillips

A Eugene “Gene” Phillips, age 76, of Tellico Plains, was reunited with his wife of 54 years, and his son, Scott on Monday, September 12, 2022.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Phillips; son, Scott Phillips; parents, Harold and Roxie Powers Phillips; brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Charlotte Phillips; brother-in-law, Ed White; and nephew, Chris Phillips; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward Gray and Mary Annette Ford Atchley; brother-in-law, Edward Grey Atchley, Jr.

Gene was born and raised in Tellico Plains, TN. He met the love of his life through a mutual friend cruising the A&W Restaurant in Madisonville. They married and raised three children.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Gene took over the family business in 1973. He ran Phillips Wrecker and Salvage alongside his sons for rest of his life. He was a man with many traits and talents. He enjoyed working his cattle and the farm, he called home. He loved his family and was grateful for the many friends he had throughout his life.

He is survived by his son, Charlie Phillips and companion, Connie Dees; daughter, Ginger Phillips; daughter-in-law, Joyce Martin Phillips; bonus son, Eddie Manning; sister, Ruth White; grandchildren, Logan and Landen Phillips, Scottie Phillips Jr., and Chasity and Travis Hutchison; great-grandchildren, Ada and Abram Hutchison; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Tootie Atchley, Bobby and MaryLu Atchley and Phyllis Atchley; adopted son and dear friend, Bill Mason; several nieces and nephews; and many other family members and close friends “you know who you are”.

The chapel will be open for viewing at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, September 16 and the family will receive friends Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the chapel. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. B.J. Wall and Rev. Kenneth Watson officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Myers Funeral Home and proceed to Unicoi Cemetery for the 11:00 a.m. committal service. Landen Phillips, Logan Phillips, Scottie Phillips, Jr, Eddie Manning, Bill Mason and Tim Williams will serve as pallbearers.
