Almer Lloyd "Van" Vanden Bosch, age 87, of Madisonville, Tennessee passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 5:35 a.m. at his home.
He was born in Zeeland, Michigan and was of the Church of Christ faith. He served his country in the Korean War, where he was wounded in action. Van married Carol Van Elk in 1967 and celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2017. In the 1970's he and Carol became devoted Christians and served as missionaries in Haiti, living there for 5 years, establishing an orphanage and nine congregations and schools. He came to love the Haitian people and remained involved in Haiti until his final trip in 2010.
He was preceded in death by his son, Randy (1997); first wife, Barbara Jean Roelofs (circa 1963); parents, Jacob and Anna Vanden Bosch; sisters, Margaret Cook, Josephine Mulder and Gertrude Taslma; and brothers, Gerald Vanden Bosch, Conrad Vanden Bosch and Chester "Chet" Vanden Bosch.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Vanden Bosch; daughters, Kathy McIntyre and Becky Vanden Bosch; sons, Alan Vanden Bosch and Lester Vanden Bosch; sister, Janet Koster; brother, Marvin Vanden Bosch; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Madisonville Church of Christ, 529 College Street. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Minister Bob Hawk officiating. Family and friends will assemble Friday, June 15, 2018 at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI at 11:00 a.m., for the committal service with military honors.
