Claude “Pete” Matoy, of Tellico Plains, went to his Heavenly home on his 85th birthday, Monday, June 30, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Goldie Sue Matoy; his parents, Fletcher J. and Bertha (Miller) Matoy;
his brothers, Verlin (Hoover), Melvin, and Samual Matoy; and his sister, Maude E. Matoy.
Pete was a devoted family man and a lifelong outdoorsman who had a passion for hunting and fishing. He proudly served his community through a 30-year career with the U.S. Forest Service before retiring in 1994.
He is survived by his children: Patrick Matoy, Brian (Jessica) Matoy, and Eddie Ellis, all of Tellico Plains; and daughter Linda (General) Hurst of Frakes, Kentucky. He was a proud grandfather to Sadie Matoy, Samantha Collette, and Kristie Hurst. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, family, special and cherished friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Myers Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at Coker Creek Cemetery with Rev. B.J Wall officiating.
Pallbearers will be retired and current U.S. Forest Service employees—an honor befitting Pete’s years of dedication and service to the land and community he loved.
