Lieutenant Colonel Claudia G. Ramsay Bryan, U.S. Army, Ret., passed away Sunday, July 31, 2022 at the age of 84.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Fannie Ramsay; husband, Lieutenant Colonel H. Ross Bryan; and her, brothers, Frank Ramsay, David Ramsay and Henry Ramsay.
She was born in Albany, GA, on June 9, 1938, to Frank and Fannie Gillespie Ramsay. Immediately following her graduation from high school in 1958, she fulfilled her dream and joined the U.S. Army. During Claudia’s time in the military, she was awarded the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Community Service Award, the faculty award of the Leavenworth Lamp, Martin Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters and she is listed in the Who’s Who of American Woman. After mor than 20 years in the military, Claudia retired in 1978 as a lieutenant colonel. Colonel Bryan dedicated her life to serving her country in the United States Army.
Following her retirement, in 1983 she went on to pass the American Bar Association and the National District Attorney’s Association after studying corporate law at Washburn University and attending courses at Oxford University, England. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Tellico Plains, Daughters of the American Revolution and The Army Corps. She enjoyed her later years in life where she made her home in Tellico Plains, TN.
She is survived by daughter, Carey Wayne Ramsay Mumaw; granddaughter, Abigail Mumaw; grandson, Ben Mumaw, nephew and spouse, Henry Ramsey, Jr. and Jane; nieces, Rose Hartsock (Dan), Connie Ramsay-Austin (Rodney) and Karen Ramsay and her special friends and caregivers, Ernie and Sharon Villalobos.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at 12:30 p.m., at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville, TN with Rev. Bill Clark officiating. If attending you must arrive by 12:00 noon.
A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, April 27, 2023 at 12:30 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church of 215 Southard St. Tellico Plains, TN with Rev. Bill Clark officiating.
