Donald Eugene Shoemaker

Donald Eugene Shoemaker, 76, of Tellico Plains passed away Monday, July 16, 2018 at UT Medical Center from melanoma cancer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James (Jimmy) D. and Nettie McCosh Shoemaker; brothers, Wayne, Leroy, Benny, Albert and J.D. Shoemaker; sister, Janey Shoemaker; grandson, Ronald P. Toren II; brothers-in-law, Truel Brazewell, Theril Montooth and Charles Wilkins; sisters-in-law, Cookie (Emily) Shoemaker and Carolyn Powell Shoemaker.

Don was the owner of Shoemaker's Lift Service from February 1979 until December 2017. A journeyman mechanic since 1962 and specialized in hydraulics and fork lifts. From 1961 to 1968 he served his country in the Army National Guard.

He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Madisonville and was a former Sunday School teacher, choir leader, Sunday School Superintendent and a Lay Minister.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia Patterson Shoemaker of Tellico Plains; son and daughter-in-law, Eric Daly and Carmen Arbogast Shoemaker of Lenoir City; daughter and son-in-law, Donna Shoemaker and Ronald Toren of Powell; grandchildren; Kelsey R. Shoemaker of Lenoir City and Victoria L. Toren of Powell; brother and sister-in-law, Merle and Shirley Shoemaker of Sweetwater; sisters and brothers-in-law; Joyce Brazewell of Carnesville, GA, Rene Goodman Shoemaker of Sweetwater, Frances Wilkins of Sweetwater, Carol and Cecil Denton of Madisonville, Linda and Wayne Smathers of Seymour and Joy Patterson Montooth of Trinidad, TX; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and many friends.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Myers Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will follow in Myers Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Davis officiating. In lieu of flowers donations for the funeral service may be made to Myers Funeral Home, P O Box 132, Tellico Plains, TN 37385.
