Fred C. Slater, 86, passed away on June 2, 2017 at his home in Coker Creek, TN. He was born on September 22, 1930 in Birmingham, AL and spent most of his life as a resident of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Coker Creek, TN. Fred married Constance in 1952 in Fort Lauderdale, FL. They were happily married for 65 years.
Fred was an avid reader and enjoyed the outdoors. He patriotically served in WW2, The Korean War and The Marine Corps Intelligence Agency for 40 years. He was a proud member of the Safari Club international, where he enjoyed extensive travel to South Africa as a professional hunter and guide. He and his wife founded Tall Pine Camp for mentally handicapped in Coker Creek, TN. He worked as the VP of Sales at Gate City for 40 years.
Fred was preceded in death by his son, Steven Fred Slater; and his grandson, Frederick Owens. Fred is survived by his spouse, Constance of Fort Lauderdale, FL; his son, Scott Slater of Stanwood, WA; his daughter Stacy Owens of Boca Raton, FL; his daughter Sherrill McCarthy of Wilton Manors, FL; 6 loving grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Myers Funeral Home.
Graveside service with military honors will be held at Lauderdale Memorial Park, 2001 SW 4th Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33315 on June 17 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation PO Box 50008 Studio City, CA 91614-5001.
