James “Jim” C. Stewart, of Tellico Plains, TN went to his Heavenly Home and was reunited with his loved ones on Saturday, April 26, 2025.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Annette Stewart; parents, Jacob and Gracie Stewart; sisters and brothers-in-law, Emma Lee and Harvey Price, Iris and L.J Cole, Martha and Elick Peals, Ethel and Harry Symons; brothers and sisters-in-law, John Avery and Sue Crye Stewart, T.W. and Coy McRay Stewart, Leonard and Sue Longwith Stewart.
Jim retired from banking in Atlanta, GA and returned to his hometown of Tellico Plains where he built his forever home. He was a skilled hunter, world traveler, boat builder, fisherman, master bird house builder, and a popular folk artist. His heart was Tellico and the work he did showed how much he loved our small town. Jim has spent many years working with his crew to make our town a more beautiful place and to make sure everyone was prepared for each event. He never met a stranger and everyone in Tellico considered him to be a friend. He was a devoted father and husband, and the most dependable friend you could ever ask for.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Zane Nelson; his loving wife, Karen Stewart and her daughter, Rachel Hall; grandchildren, Candace and Johnthon Nelson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Tom Jones, and Mattie Ann and Bud Hayes; several nieces and nephews, Jim’s crew from the Monroe County Justice System, various coworkers, and countless other friends from all over.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2025 at Myers Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel with Minister Jeff Archie and Minister Brandon Eaves officiating. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Jim’s memory to Tellico Plains Parks and Recreation (memo line: Jim Stewart) at 405 Veterans Memorial Dr. Tellico Plains, TN.
