John Dwight Broome, age 79 of Maryville, TN, crossed the finish line with the checkered flag waving on November 14, 2024 while at home.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Estelle Broome, brother and sister-in-law, David and Barbara Broome, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank Sr. and Icie Myers, brother-in-law, Frank Myers Jr. and sister-in-law, Marjorie Myers.
Dwight was a man of great faith who loved the Lord, his church family, and sharing his love for Christ. He was a lifelong member of Forest Hill Baptist Church except for five special years spent at Beach Grove Baptist Church. He served as an ordained deacon since 1969. He retired from Alcoa Aluminum Company after 35 years of service and was past president for the Auxiliary of the National Rural Letter Carriers. Dwight loved traveling all over this beautiful country including beach trips, family motorcycle trips, and anywhere else the road took him. He loved classic cars. Dwight had a great sense of humor with quick wit, and there was always lots of laughter when he was around. His memory will be cherished by his family and friends.
He is survived by his one true love of 59 years, Patricia “Patsy” Broome; daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Randy Shofner, Teresa and Billy Smith, and Deborah and Randy Garland; grandchildren, Bonnie Shofner, Will Smith and Ethan Garland; brother-in-law, David Myers; sister-in-law, Sharon Myers; nephews and nieces, Steve Broome, Bud Myers, Lee Ann Myers, Dana Myers Ryan, and Rebekah Myers; and special friend, Arthur Teffeteller.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m., Sunday, November 17, 2024 at Forest Hill Baptist Church 1850 Forest Hill Rd. Maryville, TN 37803. The funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Gary Thomas and Rev. George Macht officiating. Family and friends will assemble at Grandview Cemetery on Monday, November 18, 2024 for the 1:00 p.m. committal service. Randy Shofner, Billy Smith, Randy Garland, Will Smith, Ethan Garland and Arthur Teffeteller will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Tennessee, Inc.
