John R. Hunt, 87, of Mt. Vernon, TN transitioned to his Heavenly home on Wednesday, August 7, 2024.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Mary Hunt; brothers, H.B. “Tink” Hunt, Harley Frank “Dude” Hunt; sisters, Wanda Cook and Patsy Long.
John R. was a well-known brick, block, and stone mason in Monroe County and surrounding areas. He is best known for his work on Veterans Memorial Dr. on the World War II Tribute in Tellico Plains and many interstates south of the Mason-Dixon Line. He was a lead foreman for the pier construction during the 1996 Olympics on the Ocoee River. John R. loved the outdoors everything from hunting, fishing, and camping. He also made sure he passed down his survivor skills to his children and grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grand father. His life and memories will be forever cherished by all that knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Charlotte Hunt, son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Rhonda Hunt; daughters and sons-in-law, Crystal and Steve Maynard, Tina and Trevor Thompson; sister, Jane Woods; grandchildren, Brittney Davis, Michael John Hunt, River Cline, Lilly Thompson, Jet Cline; great-grandchildren, Gracie Davis, Kaceton Hunt, Kolton Hunt, and Ivy Billings; many nieces and nephews and several extended family members.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2024 at Myers Funeral Home. Family and friends will proceed to Eleazar Cemetery for the 3:00 p.m. graveside service with Rev. Larry Walker, Rev. Carl Croft, and Rev. B.J. Wall officiating.
