John was a devoted member and deacon of Altoona Baptist Church, where his faith was an important part of his life. He loved his church and his Lord and Savior, and his faith was evident in the way he loved and cared for those around him.
A man who enjoyed the simple blessings of life, John loved fishing, gardening, hunting, and most of all spending time with his family. He treasured his role as a husband, father, and grandfather and took great joy in the time spent with those he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Euclid Scoggins and Lorene Martin; stepfather, Cecil Martin; grandparents, Ernest and Emma Triplett; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gerald and Maggie Irons.

John leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, devotion, and family. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing that he is at peace and that his life of faith has led him home.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt and special thank you to the Rural Vale Community First Responders, PCM/Amedisys nurses and Sandy Irons for their kindness compassion, and service during this difficult time.
