Lodema "Noon" Akins

Lodema “Noon” Akins, age 92, of Tellico Plains was carried away to her heavenly home in the arms of Angels on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 while surrounded by her loving family.

She was a fixture in the town of Tellico Plains and anyone who passed her house probably seen her standing on a bank working her flowers. Born in 1929 at the beginning of the great depression, but to hear her tell it she never knew it; according to her all times were hard. “Noon” started working at a very young age at Stokley Farms and worked many years at every sewing mill in Tellico. She also cooked for several local restaurants and later worked for the United States Forestry Service. She loved her family and hosting family gatherings. Her home was always decorated according to the seasons and she loved hosting parade parties in her front yard. Lodema was the last missing piece of the “Smokey Run Clan”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlie and Mamie Akins; brothers and sister; Corbin Akins, Osborn Elrod Akins, Bob Akins, Ace Akins, Fredia Holt and Ted “Barlow” Akins; daughter-in-law, Sandy Akins; son-in-law, Marvin Shaw; and great grandson, Will Thompson.

She is survived by her daughter, Ann Shaw; sons and daughter-in-law, Mike and Elizabeth Akins, Ronnie Walker, and Darrell Akins; grandchildren, Tammy Franklin, Neal Shaw, Sharron Thompson, Angie Day, Paige Bookout, Shawn Thomas, Jessie and Jennifer Walker; brother-in-law L.P. Holt; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Debity and Barbara Akins Tipton; many great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Friday, March 19, 2021 at Myers Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m., Friday with Rev. Carroll Hamilton officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 20, at Myers Funeral Home and proceed to Center Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. committal service.
