Loretta Jane Miller

September 9, 1945 — April 29, 2025

Tellico Plains

Loretta Jane Morgan Miller, 79, gained eternal peace on April 29, 2025 after battling a lengthy illness. She was the daughter of the late John Thurman and Bertha Shaw Morgan and sister to Bob (Shirley) Morgan and Jim (Barbara) Morgan of Tellico Plains.

Loretta became a caregiver at the age of 11 when her mother suffered debilitating strokes.  Because she had lost the opportunity to attend school, she developed a lifelong yearning and love for education. After 2 long months of dating, Loretta married her life partner Glen Randell Miller Sr. in 1963 and together built a strong family with children Jennifer Glenice, Lois Marie, and Glen Randell Jr.; grandchildren Riley Abigail Hester and Laken Paul Newman; son-in-law, Paul Newman III; granddaughter-in-law, Riley Zello Newman; and nieces Deborah Diane Morgan Schmidt and Donna Morgan Yates.

Loretta was a force.  As an adult she completed her GED, LPN certificate and licensure, and ultimately earned an associate degree and RN licensure - all while caring for her family and working full time.  She served as a mentor to many young people, encouraging them to strive for excellence, education, and better opportunities. She was an expert in current events and often took up the battle for the marginalized folks in her midst.  Loretta held a deep-seated, private faith that she sprinkled on other people as needed.

No formal services will be held. Please honor Loretta by paying it forward with donations to Millers Chapel Church, 114 Seng Garden Rd, Tellico Plains TN 37385. Special appreciation is extended to her friends Shirley Freeman, Judy Jenkins, Matt Worthy, Teresa Tindell, and Marion Wallace for supporting her, engaging in antics and long phone conversations, and loving her even on her bad days. Myers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
