Maria Ferguson, age 58, of Tellico Plains passed away on, May 29, 2026.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Garry Ferguson; and daughter, Casey Ferguson.

Maria Ferguson was born in Long Island, New York and adopted by John and Clara Mish. She attended elementary school locally before moving to New Port Richey, Florida then attended and graduated from Gulf High School. Not too long after that she moved back to New York and made a career working as a paralegal. When her parents fell ill Maria moved back to Florida to care for them. Shortly after that her mother passed. She then went on and married the love of her life Garry Ferguson and had two children, Coty and Casey. However, due to complications her daughter, Casey was born with critical abnormalities which resulted in her death and left Maria disabled. She later moved to Tellico Plains, Tennessee in the fall of 2006 with her son, husband, great-grandmother, and loyal dog. Despite her disabilities Maria always made sure to take care of her family and friends always putting them above her own needs. She never said no to someone who needed her, and would do anything to help anyone. That was just the kind of person she was. In the summer of 2012 Maria was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and given only three months to live. She lived beyond the time doctors expected and continued to carry on surrounded by her loved ones. She persevered through illness and tragedies with remarkable strength and determination. Maria’s story is nothing short of inspirational, a true marvel of human spirit and resilience who deeply touched those blessed enough to know her. May she finally get the rest she deserves.

She is survived by her son, Coty Ferguson; and many special friends that was dear to her.
