Martha Stewart Peals

Martha Nell Stewart Peals age 93 of Orick, CA, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2019, after a long battle of sickness. She was born and raised in Tellico Plains, TN, and moved to Orick, CA where she owned The Palm Cafe and Motel for over 33 years.
She was the daughter of Grace Gentry Stewart and Jacob Anson Stewart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elick (Red) Peals; her parents, listed above; two sons, Scottie and Mike Peals; brothers John, Leonard, and T.W. Stewart; sisters Emma Lee Price and Iris Cole.

Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Phyllis Ingersoll Peals Eldridge; brother and sister-in-law, Jim Stewart; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ethel Symons, Mattie Anne Hayes and Shirley Jones and lots of nieces and nephews; and a special friend Linda Sloan. Martha fostered over 30 children in her lifetime, which led to numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

This lady had a tremendous heart and it showed in all the people she took care of in Orick, the family members who went to visit and the many many guest that stayed in the hotel throughout the years.  Her kind and caring heart went way beyond Orick, reaching out to the neighboring towns and many suffering from cancer when, Martha gave a generous donation to St. Joseph’s Hospital cancer program in Eureka CA. The Peals Family Chemotherapy Center was opened through her donation and has provided life-saving infusion services to cancer patients; many patients will continue to feel her love as they receive treatment throughout the years.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Brown Hill Cemetery. Martha’s family would like to ask everyone to bring a covered dish and spend time in fellowship and sharing fond memories after the service at the Brown Hill Church fellowship hall.
