Roger D. Taylor

Roger D Taylor, age 69, of Tellico Plains became a greeter at Heaven's door Monday, November 19, 2018.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Taylor; mother, Mary Lou Shell; step-father, Doc Shell; sisters, Sue Taylor, Ada Dalton, Millishan Shell; brothers, Charles “Chuck” Taylor, Charlie Bryson, Les Taylor, Jr., Raymond Taylor, Paul Taylor.

He attended Rural Vale Baptist Church, was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War and volunteered for the U.S. Forest Service. Roger enjoyed hunting and fishing, was an avid turkey hunter and  a member of the NWTF. He was always giving to others through various ways such as, local fundraisers , the Tellico Plains High School ball teams ” where he was known by them as their biggest fan”,  and to many other people and organizations. Roger, will always be remembered for his generosity and kindhearted ways.

He is survived by his children, Mary Taylor of Athens, Joe Taylor (Krystal Miller)  of Vonore and David Taylor of Tellico Plains; sisters, Jan (David) Thomas of Tellico Plains, Evelyn (Chris) Runion of Athens, Lorene (Roger) Powers of Tellico Plains, Bridget (Brooks) Powers of  Tellico Plains, Wendy (Hank) Williams of Madisonville; brothers, Phillip “Pooch” (Patty) Taylor of Tellico Plains, Darrell “Bat” Taylor of Tellico Plains; sisters-in-law; Carol Taylor, Penny Holder; brother-in-law, Dean Dalton; six grandchildren, Olijah Bradford, Cassidy Taylor, Deiontay Brown, Kayden Taylor, Colt Taylor, Paris Taylor; one great grandson, Drayden Jenkins; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2018 at Myers Funeral Home. A celebration of life service with military honors will follow at 7:00 p.m. in Myers Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carroll Hamilton and Rev. Kenny Taylor officiating. In lieu of flowers the family request to make donations to the Tellico Plains High School Athletics or to the charity of your choice.
