Ruth E. Holcomb, a beloved sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2026, with a loved one by her side, knowing she was cherished and adored. Born at home in Mt. Vernon, Tennessee, Ruth was the daughter of Ross and Mallie Holcomb. She was predeceased by her brother, Dale Holcomb.
Ruth's early life was marked by the close bonds she shared with her family. She graduated from Tellico Plains High School, where she laid the groundwork for a life filled with compassion and dedication. For over 30 years, she served her community with the United States Postal Service, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and customers alike.
A lifelong member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, Ruth's faith was a cornerstone of her life. It guided her actions and reinforced her commitment to helping others. Her kindness and generosity were unmatched; she gave more than she received and sought to make a positive difference in the lives of those around her.
Ruth had a passion for quilting and was renowned for her exquisite creations. Her cooking brought joy to many, and her keen eye for shopping brought her own joy. She was a woman of simple pleasures who delighted in the happiness of others.
She is survived by her sister, Charlotte Hunt; her nephew and spouse, Michael and Rhonda Hunt; her nieces, Crystal and Steve Maynard and Tina and Trevor Thompson, who lovingly cared for her during her final days; her great-nephews and spouse, Michael John and Kassie Hunt and Jet Cline and Haylee Shaffer; her great-nieces and spouses, Brittney and Jeff Davis, River and Anthony Simone, and Lilly Thompson; and her great-great-grandnephews and nieces, all of whom carry forward her legacy of love and generosity.
Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday Nov. 6, 2026 at Eleazar Cemetery. Her family holds her memory dear, sharing a special message: “It’s not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.” — Mother Teresa. Aunt Ruth was a true embodiment of this sentiment, a generous-hearted lady loved and respected by many. She will be forever missed
