Samuel Preston Stamey

Samuel Preston Stamey, age 64, of Tellico Plains, TN, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, August 4, 2025.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Effie Marie Stamey; brothers, Charlie Stamey, and Davis “Bunny” Stamey; sister, Jena Marie Holt.

Sam was a very respected person in Tellico Plains and the surrounding areas. For over 30 years he served in various organizations and participated in community service projects for Monroe County. He held many titles inside and outside of the county including, Captain of the Tellico Plains Fire Department, Treasurer of the Fire Association, First Responder, Monroe County Board Planning Commissioner, Treasurer for Monroe County United Way, Vice President of lending at Athens Federal Bank, Tellico Plains Library Diplomat, Monroe Chamber of Commerce Banker, and longtime member of Tellico Plains Kiwanis. Sam also served five terms as Tellico Plains Mayor from 1993-2005. He had an incredible gift of being an agreeable and inspiring individual. Everyone who knew him enjoyed his presence. Sam never met a stranger; he made friends everywhere he went. He was loved and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years Debra Stamey; children, Eric, Christy, Samantha, Sarah, Brad, Wendi, and Amber; grandchildren, Eli, Cayden, Briar, Gaige, Isaac, Blake, and Jones; sister, Glenda “Button” Evans; special nephews, Mark and Andrew; special friends, Tim Moree and Bill Bivens.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 7, 2025 at Myers Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. B.J. Wall officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 8, 2025 at Myers Funeral Home and proceed to City Cemetery for the 11:00 a.m. committal service. The family request donations to be made to Myers Funeral Home at P.O. Box 132 Tellico Plains TN, 37385 to help with final expenses. Myers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
