Sonny Wayne Cathey, age 69, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 9, 2026.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Burmel and Dwayne Cathey.

He was a deacon at Coker Creek Independent Baptist Church and a pillar of the community. Sonny worked alongside his family in running a sewing business for many years. He loved to travel and enjoyed life.

He left behind his loving wife, Gale Cathey; his children, Amanda (Tony) Rollins and Brian (Sarah) Cathey; his grandchildren, Alaura Rollins, Chance Rollins, Bree-Ella Rollins, Mary Ann Cathey, Bethany Cathey, and Sunny Cathey; his brother, Tim Cathey (Pam); and sister, Tammie Millsaps (Clayton); along with many others family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 2:00p.m. to 3:00p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Coker Creek Independent Baptist Church. Funeral service will be held at 3:00p.m. with Pastor Richard Steele and Rev. Bill Coppenger officiating. Interment to follow at Coker Creek Cemetery in Coker Creek.

 In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Coker Creek Independent Baptist Church at 489 Campbell Core Rd. Turtletown, TN 37391. Myers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
