Verlin Houston Ervin, 91, of Tellico Plains, Tennessee, died at the home of his son Stephen in Marietta, GA December 10, 2024.
Verlin Houston Ervin was born on Columbus Day October 12, 1933 to Leona Elsie Hamby and Verlin Abner Ervin in a log cabin near Ivy, Tennessee. The family moved to Knoxville, TN when he was ten and where he attended Young High School. He joined the Navy in 1952 during the Korean war. While stationed at Pearl Harbor Hawaii he married (Lethabell) Angelynn Brantley April 2, 1954.
Verlin was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother James (Jim) Ervin, and his wife Angelynn and Elaine.
He was a business owner of a trucking company and enjoyed camping and boating. He was a friendly outgoing person who enjoyed being around people. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1994 and was a faithful member. He served with his wife as a missionary for the church at the Martin Cove Handcart visitor center in Wyoming for multiple years. After the passing of his first wife, Verlin married Elaine Dansie Butterfield in 2002 and enjoyed traveling the country in their RV.
He is survived by the following children: Darryll (Sonja) Ervin, Sandy, UT and Stephen Ervin, Marietta, GA. and grandchildren Jason Ervin, Shyla (Nate) Myrick, Audra (Jeff) Green, Tristen (Emily) Ervin, Adam (Lauren) Ervin, and great-grandchildren Eva, Clayton, Harper, Laela, Weston, Avi, Leona, and Violet.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 12:00 noon Saturday, December 14, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 506 Cedar Springs Rd, Athens, TN 37303. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon by a Bishop of the Church. Interment will follow at Chestua Campground Community Methodist with military honors. Myers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
