William Augustus "Bill" Crowe, age 96 of Tellico Plains, TN passed away June 10, 2018. He was the last surviving child of Tom and Winnie Hunt Crowe. William proudly served in the United States Army during World War II, serving overseas in New Guinea in the Southwest Pacific. After returning from his service to our country, he attended the University of Tennessee and graduated in 1949 with an Agricultural Engineering degree. It was at the University of Tennessee where he met Kathryn Stephens who was and remained the love of his life. Having grown up on the family farm in Tellico Plains, after graduation he returned to the farm with his bride, Kathryn Stephens Crowe. This loving marriage lasted his lifetime. He began his teaching career at Tellico Plains High School while simultaneously maintaining his farm.
William and his wife, Kathryn, bought and later developed Green Cove in the Cherokee National Forest. The development included a convenience store, trailer camp, and motel which they continued to own and manage until their retirement at the age of 92. Many wonderful friendships were formed with the Green Cove family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, farming, history, storytelling, and being with family. He absolutely loved country and mountain life, but he was not a city boy.
He is survived by his daughters Sandra Murrin and son-in-law Randy Murrin, Mary Jane Saunders and son-in-law Russ Burdette, and Patricia Lann and son-in-law Mark Lann. Grandchildren Tamera Saunders and granddaughter-in-law Christy Saunders, Stephen Saunders, Kati Lann, and William Murrin. Great grandchild Derick Saunders. He is survived by very special friends Virgie Pickelsimer, Lela Davis, and Ricky Lynn.
His faith and relationship with God was always an important part of his life. William was a loving and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He will be missed by so many. The family would like to thank Brown Hill Presbyterian Church for their visits and food.
