William "Herbie" Herbert Gardner Sr

William "Herbie" Herbert Gardner, Sr., age 88, of Tellico Plains completed his work here on this earth and went home to be with the Lord Friday, March 3, 2017 at Vanderbilt Medical Center while surrounded by his loving family.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Aneita Marie Gardner; grandson, Travis Bryson; son-in-law, Charlie Bryson; his parents, Edgar and Rebecca Gardner; sisters, Ethel Kilby, Marie Cain, Edna Gardner and Betty Jo Gardner; brothers, Frankie, Arnold, L.C. and Enos Gardner; and his beloved police partner and friend, Earl Taylor.

He spent many hours sitting in his truck reading the local newspapers and listening to his gospel tapes. Herbie counted it an honor and loved serving the citizens of Monroe County as a Sheriff's Deputy and as the Chief of Police of Tellico Plains where he retired from law enforcement. He took great pride in his concrete finishing business and enjoyed it his entire life.

He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Penny and Clifford Holder of Tellico Plains, TN,Patty and Phillip Taylor of Tellico Plains, TN,Susie and Billy Martin of Madisonville, TN andSonya and David Harris of Tellico Plains, TN; sons and daughter-in-law,Darriel and Karen Gardner of Tellico Plains, TN andWilliam Herbert Gardner, Jr. of Tellico Plains, TN; sister,Juanita Ferry of GA; brother,Floyd Gardner of Madisonville, TN;13 Grandchildren and spouses, Melissa Gardner; Celia and Brad Davis; Clifford Jesse "CJ" Holder; Brian and Karyn Taylor; Patrick and Paige Taylor; Rosanna and Benji Milsaps; Heather and Brad Hunt; Summer Gardner; Calab Gardner; Jonathon and Amanda Harris; Jerrica and Josh Bolton; Jasmine Harris and her boyfriend, Braden Strickland; great grandchildren, Shelby Bryson Howard; Cooper and Caden Davis; Danielle Hoppe Taylor; Jacob Taylor; Hannah Grace Taylor; Keegan Taylor; Avery Taylor; Bella Moser; Mylah Hunt; Michael Freeman, Jr.; Paxton Harris; and Brody Bolton; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 6, 2017 at Myers Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 8:00 p.m. in Myers Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carroll Hamilton and Rev. Mickey Payne officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Myers Funeral Home and proceed to New Providence Cemetery for the 11:00 a.m. committal service. Pallbearers: his grandsons, Clifford Jesse "CJ" Holder, Brian Taylor, Patrick Taylor, Calab Gardner, Jonathon Harris; and special friend, Jamie Hicks.
